Music Overview

At St Mary's First School we develop our children's creativity, knowledge and understanding through the enrichment of our music curriculum within each year group.

We offer each child the opportunity to perform, compose, listen, appreciate and evaluate music from a wide genre. Children are able to explore different musical instruments and performance opportunities throughout the year groups.

Each child will have a firm knowledge of music notation which will develop on their musical journey.

As an addition to the core music curriculum the school is a National singing school and children participate in the annual national Sing Up initiative.

During their time at St Mary's the children will benefit from singing assemblies, external music providers, choir, musical groups, live music performances, peripatetic teaching for those wishing to take part and a number of performance opportunities.
